Hello again

I haven't worn these pants in quite a while. When I pulled them out, this necklace fell out of the pocket! Hooray! I noticed a while ago I couldn't find it, but didn't spend too much time worrying about it until I totally forgot about it. It took me a long time to undo the tangles the chain was in, so it was even more gratifying to put in on again. I'm so glad it's back in my life! The back reads, " 'To thine own self be true' -Shakespeare." Amen.

p.s. Now that I'm staring at this photo, the top looks a little long to me. Maybe I should have it hemmed 3 or 4 inches. What do you think?

Daily Details:
- top with green bow, Anthroplogie, approximate current cost per wear $5.67
- cords, J Crew, accpw $4
- necklace, accpw $10

Inner Child

So... I love the ballet. It is so beautiful. If I had known about ballet when I was a toddler, I would have insisted on lessons immediately. By the time I knew ballet existed, I was about 8 years old and painfully aware that my parents didn't have a lot of money, so I decided to help out by not ever asking for stuff. When I saw this tutu skirt at my favorite thrift store this weekend, I knew it would become part of my wardrobe. When I showed it to a friend, she expressed doubt as to its appropriateness, wearability, etc. The skirt has now been washed, steamed, and made its debut today in conjunction with another almost all black outfit. I thought I would tone down its whimsy by doing a somber monochromatic thing. What do you think? Does this work?
Outfit Highlights
- cashmere tank top, ebay, current cost per wear 20/2=$10
- tutu skirt, thrifted, ccpw 1/1=$1
- silver locket, gift from brothers on my last birthday- I think the inside is so pretty, don't you?

Liquid Sunshine

This is what I put on to join my family for this morning's regular bowling date. I meant to grab my usual trusty black cashmere scarf but I couldn't find it (don't worry, it was just upstairs) and ended up with this green scarf instead. I don't usually wear green on green, but this sweater is ivory, pale green, and dark green, so I figured a darker green scarf couldn't clash too much. My brother complimented me by saying, "I like how you didn't dress like the weather." I was confused because I thought this outfit was very weather appropriate considering it's 40 degrees and pouring. He clarified, "I mean, you're not wearing gray, blue, and black." Oh. Now I'm trying to think if that's what I usually wear to bowl...

I'm posting a close-up of my raincoat's hood cincher. I wrote a couple days ago about how I appreciate quality details like this, especially when Lucy and I are at the mercy of the weather twice daily. This jacket also made it onto my Christmas wish list because it's made by Patagonia, which, according to better world shopper, is one of the most responsible clothing companies out there.  Also, it's yellow, my new favorite color.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Outfit Highlights:
- raincoat, Christmas gifted from significant other after wish list request
- cashmere striped sweater, thrifted, originally from Banana Republic, current cpw 3/3=$1
- circle scarf from Loft

People first, then money, then jackets

You haven't seen me in coats yet. The other posts have all been photographed outside, but trust me, it was cold. But if we're going to be fashion friends, you have to know this about me: I love coats. I always have one with me. I get cold all the time and then I buy coats. I might have a small problem with that. In my defense, I live in a place with changing weather, therefore many different kinds of coats are needed. Actually, that's probably not true. If I were a monk, I could probably get by with one light raincoat and one hooded parka. But, I am not a monk. Being spartan is not one of my qualities.

I bought this coat a few years ago and I thought I could check "p/leather jacket" off my list of things I always wanted. But I should confess that since then, two other pleather jackets have been added to my collection. They're quite different from this one, though! This one is brown with a Nehru-ish collar. One is gray and more scuba-esque. The third is black with an asymmetrical zipper moto-style and a shearling collar. They're all different! I read once that Pablo Picasso as a child was able to see small differences in things that were the same to others. He knew that each leaf, each shell, each acorn is different from every other leaf, shell, and acorn in the world and could never be replicated. I like to think I get that. This is my small interpretation of that idea... :)

Outfit Highlights:
- pleather jacket with fuzzy insulation from now bankrupt shop
- scarf, crocheted and gifted from talented family member
- locket from craft store that I've been wearing since I was twelve

Not So Basic Black

I am in love. Lust. Unhealthy obsession. I am enamored by a pair of shoes I saw on another girl's blog. They are beautiful, exquisite, and ridiculously expensive. I will never own them because I can't justify spending that kind of money on heels, I would never get the cost per wear down to anything reasonable, and wearing heels hurts! I've tried on and bought many pairs in high (haha) hopes, but have never been able to find anything that will carry me through a full day of my active, busy, beautiful life.

But this blog is about appreciating what I DO have, so today I want to introduce you to my purple suede cutout booties. I don't love them, but I sure do like them. I haven't worn them often, but it's Friday night, I didn't bring any work home, and we're going out, baby!

Outfit Highlights:
- black open cardigan with black fleece panels
- black top with satin back
- black pants/leggings (peggings?)
- thrifted necklace, cpw 7/7=$1
- Aerosole cutout booties, cpw 80/4=$20

New Favorites

I am so pleased that this blog is already helping me appreciate and use things in my closet that haven't gotten much use. I got this cardigan 2 or 3 years ago and have barely worn it. I'm so glad it saw the light of day today and brought its cost per wear down from $20.

Yesterday I shared my old favorite necklace and this is my newest one, but it's quickly becoming a new favorite. I love that it's so simple, small and unassuming, yet elegant and beautiful (think). Something that I worry about is when I get something new, it becomes my "favorite." I don't want to be the kind of person that's fickle, faithless, or  disloyal to anyone or anything, even clothes! What's the pecking order in your closet? Do favorites change often as new items come in?

Outfit Highlights
- Gap open cardigan, cpw a shameful 40/3= $13.33
- Anthro long sleeve tee
- 7FAM trouser jeans
- Dogeared circle necklace, cpw 50/10=$5

Sunbreak

During a break from the rain, I decided to try my backyard as a possible permanent location for blog photos and Lucy couldn't bear to let me be lonely. Such a sweet dogger.

Do your favorite colors change? Do you have a favorite necklace? What is it?

Outfit Highlights:
- yellow cardigan from last summer when I realized yellow is my new favorite color
- thrifted dress, originally from Ann Taylor
- my favorite necklace, worn about 500 times so far

Rainy Tuesday

It's definitely one of those days that makes you appreciate quality items. I was walking Lucy in a squalling windstorm this evening and I was so grateful for my waterproof boots and the drawcords on the hood of my coat that kept me dry. I remember I went for a hike once and got caught in a rain storm. The coat I had kept me mostly dry, except for everywhere it had seams! By the time I got in from the elements, my shoulders and armpits were soaked! And that's when I learned why you need that have a good coat. The End. Maybe tomorrow I'll tell the story of when I learned why you need good boots!
Outfit Highlights
- This is one of my favorite thrifted shifts, I got it two months ago from my favorite thrift stores. It was made my J Crew, made of wool and cost me $7! Divide by the three times I've worn it, and the cost per wear is currently $2.33. Yay!
- silver key necklace from Macy's about two years ago
- new to me Dooney bag from ebay. I think this bag is probably ten years old. Does that make it vintage?
- cashmere scarf, long sleeve tee, leggings, waterproof boots (not pictured)

Everybody Back On Your Heads

It's Monday and I have a full week ahead. I wore red again today and I love red and cream together, so I wore this sweater, which I stalked until it went on sale a few months ago. I'm a total sucker for cable knit, and this one had leather buttons, too! Icing on my cardigan cake. What are details you can't resist?

Outfit Highlights:
- wool cable knit sweater, probably the only Abercrombie thing I own, cost per wear about $15
- red t-shirt that's a little nicer than a t-shirt, it's still New Year, I had to wear red, cost per wear about $4
- brown boots that you can't see because I cut them off because I'm still figuring out backgrounds and times to take photos... besides, it felt really weird to wear shoes in the house, cost per wear about $2

Happy New Year!

Happy Year of the Dragon!
Today I'm wearing red for luck and my peace and love pendants. It's all about friends and family today. I'm seeing two dear friends for over donuts and then having dinner at my mom's. Can't wait! Have a happy Sunday!
