See Ya Later

Dear Friends,

I am going to take a break.  In recent weeks my ability as well as desire to put on something cute, photograph it, and write has receded to a vanishing point.  I will likely be back one day, but I don't know when.

Don't forget to shop second hand, locally, and to consider cost per use.

Thank you for your sweet, thoughtful, encouraging, and hilarious comments along the way.  You have been a bright spot in my life and I'm so grateful that you chose to spend time here.  Thank you.

Take care,
Vivienne

  7. oh I really hope you will be back someday soon. though I totally understand you. it's so hard to find time and motivation when most of your time is already taken anyway (working, taking care of your house, family and pets etc). take care, dear.

  18. I think you warned us this spring that this day would come...this is a difficult time of the year to balance all the things we want to do, let alone have to do...so I think it is probably a smart move to take a break and come back when you feel inspired and recharged. Happy Holidays and all the best to you!

  19. I will seriously miss you. I have taken breaks here and there too. You are a delight as well. Happy Holidays! admirably, dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  20. Good job takin' care of yourself, ate! I'll miss seein' all your pretty pictures and reading all your funny words! You've done a lot of sharing in these past months...maybe I should take this time to tell you some of my personal Thrifted Shift highlights!! Here's my top 5:

    5) RUSSIAN NESTING DOLLS Wed. March 28th: Because #1. I REALLY liked that shirt you're wearing and you lovingly passed it down to my wife to wear! Now I ALWAYS get to see it. #2. You say so many sweet things about my lovely wife. Who doesn't like that?? #3. There's even a quick shot out to me too! Thanks for makin' me famous.

    4) STYLE IMITATING ART: CAVES OF LASCAUX Mon Sept 24th 2012: I'm not an art buff, but everyone's interpretation of these paintings were fun, inventive and I like that I can see the painting style in everyone's individualism. Plus, you wore a cute yellow belt. I usually NEVER care about belts, but you made that one pop.

    3) METAPHORICAL LEMONADE AND ACTUAL ROSES Thur Aug 23rd 2012: First...I love the titles of your posts. Second, GREAT AAA story! I like that it happened to you so now you'll pop your own hood. I'm trying to get your sister to rely less on roadside assistance. It's good to revisit the set of skills that you have! Good job high school auto shop kid!! Oh...also....it was a pretty day AND you got love from puppy and HH! Can't really beat that.

    2) TRUTHS & LIES Sun Oct 7th 2012: #1 You look way better than the other girl. #2 You can't go wrong with fun pics of sliding down a rail. #3 I think I got all your lies (-pi to the 20th digit -3 years of latin -Ryan Seacrest -stars in Death Valley -Hula and fire dance -Cant swim)

AND MY #1 FAVORITE THRIFTED SHIFT POST IS...........

YOU'RE EITHER WITH ME...OR THE TERRORISTS WIN (JUST KIDDING) Wed May 30th 2012: This is the episode where you come out!! All I'll say is there isn't a word i DIDN'T love in this! I invite everyone to revisit this post and enjoy the expressions of fury, passion, devotion to your life calling and in-your-face 'screw you!' to bosses!!

FAREWELL amazingly talented, beautiful and hilariously amusing blogger!!! Even though you're taking a break, I will devotedly revisit older post like watching reruns of a favorite sit-com!! :)

  31. Thanks, Vivienne, for inspiring me. I am starting a wardrobe challenge based on cost-per-wear averaged over my entire wardrobe, indoor clothing that is, and treating special occasion pieces as a separate average. It will be enlightening, I'm sure to look at my clothing expenses that way.
    Pam.

  32. Vivienne, I'm so sorry to hear you won't be posting any more! Yours was one of only a small handful of blogs I read regularly. I loved your mix of style (that I would actually wear!), personality, and book reviews. But I can well imagine how time-consuming taking outfit photos is! I really hope that you post again at some point, even if it's just the occasional note. :)

  36. I was just discussing blogger breaks with someone yesterday. They asked why bloggers take them and I said, well, a lot of the time blogging is just a hobby for people and real life calls. The holidays are especially busy, with all the extra errands, baking, and hustle and bustle added on to daily life. I have many a day where I just can't be bothered to think about what I'm wearing, so I know exactly what you mean. I hope life is treating you well, though, and I hope to see you back blogging, because I think you have a great voice.
