Hair Mehs and Myths

My hair has been a source of unhappiness for me as of late.  It looks bad.  So I went to a salon and  asked for just a shampoo and blowdry.  It came out just meh.  But after I got home and messed with it a little, I was happy enough with it.  Then I talked to the woman who inspired me to grow and donate my hair in the first place and she told me I need to occasionally trim it to encourage my hair to grow!  Hallelujah!  I  had written that off as a myth years ago, but I think I'm just going to go ahead and roll with that.  I can't wait to schedule a trim appointment!  Also, I bought voluminizing tonic and hair spray.  Maybe that'll help.

Do you ever hate your hair? What do you do?

Oh!
p.s. Check out this adorable card case my friend E's daughter, C, made me!  The bow is technically a hair accessory she made, but I'm using it as a closure. Cute, huh?
Duct tape + bobby pin + imagination = delights. Thanks again, C!

  1. I understand completely--my hair drives me crazy quite frequently. I keep it short usually, but occasionally I want to grow it out. My patience never lasts long, so I end up cutting it, then going through the process again! Sigh.

  2. I love your leopard scarf!

I know that feeling about hair, a little trim can make all the difference in the world sometimes!

  3. You're donating your locks? I love that, good for you. Your hair is so pretty it will be loved over and over again by someone. ;)

I use to hate my hair a lot when I got over 45 and it was long. Once I kept it above my shoulders I seemed to have stopped having bad hair days. Well, if it's really bad I just put on a hat. But for me, it's better proportion to have shorter hair.

  4. i hate my hair about 75% of the time. i was cursed with super fine and blerg hair. a fresh cut, even if it's just a trim does wonders, though! also, coconut oil is supposed to help it grow. i smother my hair in it every few nights and sleep with it in. either way, my hair is nice and soft the next day!

  5. 'Meh hair' sounds a long way from I hate my hair. I don't usually bother hating mine, that takes too much effort and has no effect. I just know what it does and what it doesn't do and go with the flow (or don't fight it, depending how you look at things). And get a good haircut that works with what you've got. Besides, people are going to be swept away by your smile anyway!

  6. Your hair always looks lovely to me, but then I think we are so much harsher on ourselves! My hair is hopeless, I just leave it to its own devices most of the time!

  7. I hate my hair every single day. Now that Patrick is gone, I told him I was going to chop it all off. Now if I could just get a minute to get that done . . .

I love your hair though! And this leopard scarf is so cute!

  8. V, I would never have known you felt that way as your hair always looks smooth, healthy and pretty. I am shocked to hear you say this and I admire you for future plans of donating your locks. I am a hair hoarder...I have always wanted long hair and the past four almost five years have been the longest I have kept it consistently. Anyway, you look sexy in your jeans and scarf, yes, I said sexy. Love the bag. dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  10. I'm feeling that way now. This is the shortest my hair has ever been. I keep getting trims, but for me it's not growing fast enough. LOL I started taking some hair vitamins, so i'm hoping that does the trick! love your scarf vivienne! enjoy your new products and trim :)

  14. Through the years, I have hated my hair twice and it wasn't my fault. Once I had a older gal that was on pain meds when she 'RUINED' my hair=Nightmare!!! I had to have two other stylists at another salon fix my hair! The stylist before my current one was on drugs or needed to be on drugs, too. She also ruined my hair. So between the two I have had my fair share of freaky stylists. My stylist now is AMAZINGLY AWESOME. Since we moved last year, I have to drive 55 minutes to go to her instead of the former 15 minutes. I won't go to anyone else - EVER! (hopefully) I have also heard that cutting your hair promotes it to grow, but my stylist says that is a myth... hmmmmm, who to believe? I wish I could donate my hair but I have it dyed and they don't accept dyed hair. I lady in my church has fast growing hair and she donated her hair all the time.

  15. I can sympathize, because I guess that you have the same Asian hair as me which nothing can stick to (that's why I never wear my hair down - I'd look like the girl from "The Ring"). It's OK though, as long as it's healthy and natural, don't be frustrated by it. After all, it's just hair, right?

  21. I hate my hair! Oh my goddddd I cut all of mine off in an attempt to make it a bit more healthy looking and it STILL looks like shit haha. I have taken to wearing wigs instead haha! I can't see anything wrong with yours though :)

  22. it definitely is such a cute card case! and super special too! would match with your leopard scarf btw. but when it comes to hair then yes, sometimes it makes my life hard because it's long and thick and curly. quite a challenge! but it shouldn't be too depressing since we have so many different shampoos, conditioners, masks, oils etc to make our hair more happy.

  23. I think the trimming your hair to help it grow has some truth to it. Split ends just make your hair shorter in the long run. I have meh hair too - some days it cooperates and some days it doesn't. You nailed the inspiration outfit btw.

  25. I think your hair looks lovely, but I know exactly what you mean; despite how it looks to everyone else...it may look and feel bad to us. My hair has always been a source of frustration. When I was young it was super curly. I mean really really curly. I hated it. Then I got used to it in my thirties and sort of liked it. When I had my last son (he's 8) my hair changed dramatically. Most of the curl is gone, but its not smooth and straight. It still has a tiny bit of curl in place I don't want it to (my bangs) and then its flat on top and wavy or curly at at the ends in some sections and straight in others. My hair has multiple personalities and I don't know which one I'm going to get on any given day.

  26. You look lovely.
As for the hair situation. I never actually HATE anything about myself - I think it's quite a strong negative feeling that makes things even worse. If there's something I don't like, I just concentrate on all the good bits instead. :)

  27. Like many of the others, I think you hair always looks great. I have the opposite problem to yours -- too much volume. Dyeing it helps because it weighs it down, and so does liberal application of heavy products designed for curly hair. Recently I've found the sweet spot where my hair is long enough that it helps to pull out some of the volume, but not so long that there is just too much of it. Humid days are ponytail days, and when it's crazy-humid in the summer, I slick it back in a bun.

  28. I know just what you mean. I recently went natural (2 years in Dec) but most of time my hair will not co-operate not matter what. And the growth is dinosaur slow so styling is another pain. I have a gazillion textures which sometimes are a nightmare. I think it's really cool that you are donating it.
And the card case is adorable. I am addicted to anything leopard print!
