Occidental College

Happy Autumn!  This orange and black combination reminds me of my undergrad days as an Occidental College Tiger in Los Angeles.  I must admit that I was slightly miserable my first year and considered transferring to the UW where I wouldn't have had to take out loans and could have kept some of what I was earning by working full time on all my breaks.  In the end, I'm so glad I stuck with it.  Oxy really sharpened my critical thinking skills and I loved all the traveling abroad I got to do then.  I also got to go on the best field trips ever for my Geology classes.  More importantly, some of my dearest friends were the ones I made there, including Vay, whose wedding we attended two weekends ago.  Check out this adorable video that gives credit to me for getting those two lovebirds together!

While HH and I were in LA, we took a sentimental stroll around the Oxy campus.
Did I mention we both went there?

What are your best school memories?

  1. Oh my. I 'm reading this as I visit LA! California is some kind of crazy state. Looooove the shot of the hawk! You look so cute reliving your school days. I went to the University of Montana where I remember that it smells like pine and sage and fresh fresh air. I loved it there!!!

  2. My favorite course was Physics 101. That professor was amazing and he never forgot me. Many thought he was a wonderful professor; Jay R. Ballif. (baal-if). I was most inspired by a Humanities Teaching Assistant that taught me appreciation of the Arts, but I think her name was (hmm, forgot). I loved my apartments where I lived and most of all all of the wonderful roommates I had. I only still know 3 of them. But that was a long time ago (1975) whooo. Wonderful photo tour of your experiences, thank you, Vivienne!

  6. Is it weird that of all your cool pics I'm most intrigued by your mailbox? It looks antique and expensive. Mine looked like a post office box. But anyway... Our colors were orange and black as well! I also considered going considered going to GSU where I wouldn't have to pay a small fortune, but I wouldn't trade my time at Mercer for anything! My best college memories were pretty much all of them because I learned great lessons even in the tough moments.

  8. Looks like a beautiful campus! And what a fun video! I also love your dress!!

School was fun, I enjoyed college, I was a member of a service oriented sorority so some of my best memories are of doing activities with the girls like raking lawns in the neighborhood or volunteering at a haunted house, things like that. It was fun. (And we weren't your typical party girls, but we did know how to have a good time!)

  15. Huh. Where in LA is your school? I've lived there for 7 years and never heard of it! It's a beautiful campus though. I didn't go to a normal college (film school) so I kinda missed the whole university life thing...

  17. Ok, those dorms look super nice! The ones on our campus were so crappy and rundown. Looks like a gorgeous campus. What is that hawk holding? A squirrel? Whatever it is, that's a really cool shot! Love the orange + black combo, gets me excited for halloween :) Have a great weekend.

  21. Oh you had a wonderful college experience and what a beautiful campus. I loved my college years, too. I feel very privileged to have been able to follow that dream for education. I'm not a scholar yet I love the experience of school.

  22. Orange and black is the perfect happy fall outfit! What a great way to reminisce about the school days gone by. I guess fall is the best time to think back to our scholarly years. :)

  23. Ahh, a walk down memory lane is always fun! Your school is so pretty! I wasn't too involved in college, so I think mostly of hurrying from my car into class and trying to stay out of the cold!! Lame.

I like your orange and black outfit! :D
