Halloween is the one night of the year that HH and I watch a scary movie together. Horror is not my genre, I get way too scared because a small but very insistent part of me believes ghosts are real. How do I know? Because I used to work in a haunted library. I would be shelving books in some forlorn, lonely little corner and hear footsteps where no one was. I would hear the sound of a book falling and not find a single one out of place. Rumor says one poor student actually went insane after being accidentally locked in there all night. Sometimes I would get the closing shift, which I avoided if I possibly could. It entailed of walking every inch of the place, asking people to leave, all the while my boss would be turning off the lights. Sometimes I would get the lights turned out in the area where I was and I'd run to the next lit section. If I was lucky, I could convince my boyfriend (now HH) to come with me so the whole thing was less scary. Haunted libraries and scary movies are definitely less scary if there's someone holding your hand. Candy helps, too.
Do you believe in ghosts?

I believe in 'something'...personally I think places act as recorders, storing up impressions that get accidentally replayed from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThat's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Love this outfit, the colour of the dress really makes it pop!
I don't like scary movies either. Yes, I do believe in ghosts. That's probably why I don't like scary movies.
ReplyDeleteWhoo, like the orange skirt. Good one for Halloween!
Ha! I like how HH didn't make it not scary- but "less scary"... I believe in ghosts when it comes to my grandmothers house which was built about 100 yrs ago by her father who was killed in front of it after being run over by a horse and carriage. Her mother's funeral was held in that house, and the family says that their souls remain there. I NEVER walked about in the house after dark... Not EVER (unless by force if ice cream or homemade cake)
ReplyDeleteWow....that job sounds terrifying! I have a love-hate relationship with scary movies. I don't mind them while I'm watching but then when I'm trying to sleep I suddenly can't stop thinking about the movie. Your outfit is so cute and festive!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes do, yes. but not too much though.
ReplyDeleteyour story sounds super scary.. I can totally imagine everything you've described here since my imagination is colourful, sometimes even too colourful.
anyway, I also like the colours of your outfit. orange looks so good when paired with brown!
Maiken,
Maikeni blogi - part of me
What a creepy sounding job you had. I can feel ghosts sometimes when I walk into an antique shop. Or at least I can feel the energies from the old furniture. One time that feeling was so strong I could actually see (with my minds eye) an 1800's woman standing in a corner. I was in the upper area of an antique store in down town Renton and I went back down the stairs pretty quickly and told the shop owner, it's haunted up there. And he said, "Oh yes, we know. There's a woman who roams the place frequently." Ewww.
ReplyDeleteI haven't personally had a ghostly encounter but I know people who have! And I relate to the empty library, I used to work in one that I don't know was haunted, but I would have to empty the night drop on days when it was closed and I hated being there alone. I'd make my husband-then boyfriend go with me too!
ReplyDeleteI love your orange skirt, very Halloween-y!
Oh hell naw. Ghosts, angels, the afterlife--the only real fear that I have ever had. I would've quit that instant! You are brave! I love your orange skirt today Vivienne! Very subdued festive!
ReplyDeleteWe used to live in a very old house in Connecticut. My daughter was in first grade. She told me that there was a girl in our house that would say hello to her and I thought, "Isn't that cute? She has an imaginary friend." But sometimes when I was home alone I would hear a child's voice say, "Hello!" I would run all over the house to see if the tv was on or if someone was at the door but I never figured it out. It would happen so much that even though it was very creepy, I kind of got used to it. Just Hello. Only my daughter and I heard it. That was years ago. Now we live in California and if my daughter and I ever talk about it we both still get the shivers. OOOOOOOO....

just thinking about that library makes me scared. i am definitely no good with scary things...fake or real (and haunted libraries are definitely real)!
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE i believe in ghosts! Taotaomonas (people of the past) are all around us. They are our ancestors guiding us, warning us, watching over us, showing us things that we can't see otherwise. I own 2 houses right now. I bought them because I know nothing bad ever happened to anyone in the whole history of these two houses. I know that because of taotaomonas. It might sound hokey to other people but I don't care. I don't need the residue of a violent past inside the walls of the home I'm raising my family in. If taotaomonas are trying to tell you something...you should listen.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe in ghosts! I don't like scary movies.
ReplyDeleteEh, I'm too cynical to believe in ghosts. I'd like to think that there's a logical explanation for all the paranormal phenomenon, but that doesn't mean that I don't like a good scary story - I would love to work in that library of yours!
ReplyDeleteoh i can't do horror, i'm a big chicken. that haunted library would freak me out! v, you look effortlessly sophisticated. :)
ReplyDelete:D Candy definitely helps with a scary movie.
ReplyDeleteThat is beyond creepy that you worked in a haunted library! I don't think I could handle that. I definitely believe in paranormal entities, and I am a bit obsessed with hearing ghost stories and reading about haunted places.
While I haven't had any haunted experiences, I would say I'm open to the possibilty of ghosts. Hows that for a safe answer? :) I'm enough of a weenie not to like many scary movies, although every now and then I'll watch one. Anyway, I love your orange and black look, it's festive but in a sophisticated, not cheesy, way!
ReplyDeleteWe lived in a haunted house when I was a teenager. Oddly, it didn't scare me even though it was mostly my room that was affected. But scary ghost movies? Especially those Paranormal ones? Yeesh. I can't hardly deal!
ReplyDeleteVivienne, I love that orange dress and black together! Such a grown up look for the holiday! I believe in Spirits. Both good ones and bad. I would've had someone to walk with me through that library too. hahaha I feel so sorry for the girl that lost her mind.

Vivienne this is a great story. I know you were afraid, I would have been too. I do watch a lot of horror films just not demonic/ possession flicks. I have never seen a ghost but I do believe that energy exists in some form good or evil. I can't imagine not being afraid if I saw or heard something. Great skirt
ReplyDeleteDawn suitcase vignettes
Awhhh. thanks for the Birthday Greet! I had a great birthday, thank you! As for your cute halloween color...very cute. Now for hauning uuugh. I prefer to believe in friendly ghosts. If one can choose. I am glad you had pre HH...to go help you. yikes!
ReplyDeleteI love your dress! I don't ever watch horror films, I am much too scared and would prefer a comedy. I think I saw a ghost when I was a teenager but who knows, imagination can be a powerful thing.
ReplyDeleteI think that ghosts are certainly possible. I don't do scary movies either. Love the bottom of your dress.
ReplyDeleteWorking the closing/night shift at a library sounds like something strait out of a horror movie! I'd be a little spooked too! I generally only watch scary/horror movies during October too.
