This year I am mentoring a student teacher, a smart and capable woman who wants to have her own classroom in the near future. In my classroom, in my own head, I am
so obviously THE TEACHER. So it was odd to me that on the first day of school, parents were walking
right past me to give her forms and introduce their children to her. When I told my Handsome Husband what happened, he asked if she's older than me (we're the same age), if she's taller than me (yes), and if she wears glasses (yes). I also hypothesized that my
first day of school outfit had perhaps been too cute. Today was our school's Open House night, and I was determined to look like I'm in charge. Hence this dress, these shoes, and the lipstick.
What do you wear when you want to look like the boss?

What a rockin' dress! You completely look in charge. To be honest, I don't have a "power" outfit, but it probably would be something handy...
ReplyDeleteThis all looks good but your dress? Absolutely smashing!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, what do I wear when I want to look like 'the boss'? Not something I have to worry about now but back in the day it was charcoal grey pinstriped trousers with a lighter grey blouse and grey ankle boots or low pumps, depending on the weather.
Well, I'm a little bossy, so people tend to think I'm in charge even when I'm not. Maybe it's just that you're really nice, Vivienne! But when I want to feel that extra style-powershot, yes, I break out heels, and I might carry a big stick. Just kidding. Sort of. Anyway, you look smart, professional, and in charge for your open house! Besides, it's all in the attitude, right? ~Sarah
ReplyDeletesomething leathery maybe? a leather skirt for instance. and definitely heels.
ReplyDeleteyour dress is beautiful btw. I like the shoulder detail. and the foggy background is cool!

That is a great work appropriate dress - I love the gray!

That is such an amazing dress!! I LOVE the cut <3
ReplyDeleteYou look like a confident professional
Ow ow!!! That outfit definitely screams "hello, I'm in charge and I'm fierce!" You look great!
ReplyDeleteVery nice look, definitely less cute. I was a (lifestyle) journalist for so long. The expectation in the office was that most journalists were slobs, but people on the 'outside' expected a shopping columnist/editor like me to be somewhat of a fashion plate. I just wore what I wanted - pretty lucky!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely look in charge! Very pretty but still professional :) I hope Open House went well!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a great outfit. Love the dress and the read heels. You definitely achieved your goal I think. You look very professional and in charge.
ReplyDeleteI always wear heels when I want to look in charge. I think a nice heel, but not a big platform, helps to create a more authoritative look.
Well mission accomplished Vivienne! You look like the Principal! You look so good and put together. I LOVE that dress! So sharp and great color with the shoes.

This dress is fantastic! Definitely gives you an authority figure feeling. Not to mention it fits you like a glove.
ReplyDeleteWhen I need to feel powerful I add a power blazer to my outfit! Definitely makes a difference.
I think this outfit is a great professional look! I love how you jazzed it up a bit with the red shoes. I'm not the boss but I think people sometimes don't see me as a professional because I'm so petite and I look young so I can completely relate!

ReplyDeleteViv, you look so classy and pretty! Def. look like you mean business to me(um, is that really the weather back home behind you?).
ReplyDeleteFor business time, I always pull my hair back. I have also noticed that I have gotten a job offer every time that I have worn the color green in my outfit (hmm...the color of money!?). :) Amanda
Hello beautiful! This dress is simple yet so stunning on you!

LOL Aw! Well you definitely look in charge in this GORGEOUS charcoal dress and those bossypants heels! I love these colors on you! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteYes YOU are the Boss! That dress is old? OOOh I LOVE it! I recall foggy days like that yet you can wear sleeveless. I sure did love the PNW weather; never HOT, never COLD. (well, almost never)
ReplyDeleteYup, you look like the boss in this outfit! Love the red shoes!
ReplyDeleteOMG how annoying! You should wear one of those name tage "Hello my name is THE TEACHER" ugh ...lol I personally would have been really annoyed. Maybe they think you look too young or something. Idk but this outfit should let them know that you mean business, in a totally cute way! =)
ReplyDeleteIn this beautiful dress and killer red shoes, you definitely look like you're in charge! I think it's a good thing though--it means you look young! But I understand how you feel--one day I got mistaken for a student when I was subbing!! Anyway, I LOVE this look!
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful, and definitely a little intimidating (thats good thing). I would take you seriously, but first I'd be awed by your presence..haha!
ReplyDeleteI would wear probably a sheath dress in black that hits the knees, straight hair, and probably my glasses.
That must have been a bit annoying. You look lovely in the dress, such a great fit and very much a woman who means business, always a bonus!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous look sweetie!
ReplyDeleteLove the grey with the touch of red!!!

You look Very Smart. You can teach them all about sophistication. When I did my student teaching at a high school, I got stopped in the hall because I didn't have a hall pass!
ReplyDeletesuch cute construction of that dress and i love the burgundy shoes with it
ReplyDeletebrett
Ha! Well, I think you look very much like a teacher, and your Open House outfit is very nice! I was mistaken several times for a student for a year or two at my school because I'm so short and often wore my hair in ponytails.
ReplyDeleteThat is a super dress....I love the ruffle. Good for you to mentor a student teacher. That can be a big cahallenge...best to you both.
ReplyDeleteyou go girl! they will all walk up to you in this beauty! i wouldn't take offense, though...i bet it's because you have such a young and unintimidating face. also, i adore those shoes!
ReplyDeleteoh, and a ps to your comment the other day...chris still drives me to work every day, but we just bring our own coffee...so we do (luckily) still get that time together!
ReplyDeleteyou look elegantly glamorous! you must look young teacher lady. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look like sexy, favorite teacher.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is very sophisticated. (although the boss comment is making me think of the Like a Boss youtube video.)
ReplyDeleteTo me dressing sophisticated is all about having shoes that go clomp when I walk. :)
You look very professional here! I would definitely know that YOU'RE the teacher :) In fact, I want that dress...
ReplyDeleteJulia
I love this dress! The subtle detail is great :)

You look like the boss here! The dress fits you perfectly! For me it would be a pencil skirt, blouse and some fun heels!
