7:30 First outfit idea fail: maxi skirt and blazer pattern mixing not working.
7:35 Second outfit idea fail: new (made in USA) peplum top not cute with 4 different skirts- may have to return
7:45 Third outfit idea fail: cute dress with pink belt, but too short for work
7:50 Fourth outfit idea fail: dress too wrinkled, also needs minor alterations to be less cutesy.
7:55 Desperation sets in, panic that I'm about to be late for work, determined not to show up naked.
8:00 Settled on this safe dress and yellow cardigan. Not exactly fashion forward nor creative nor edgy nor new, but completely acceptable under the circumstances. Actually, I've worn practically the exact same outfit in this post from the very beginnings of this blog in January.
As I'm determined to not minimize this experience from happening again, I've decided to make a special section in my closet for emergency dresses: dresses that always work and don't need me to be a certain weight, need no ironing, nor tank tops underneath, and are an appropriate length for work. So far I have today's dress and this one.
Do you have a go-to, no-fail, emergency outfit?

Wow. Bad morning for ya. Thank goodness for that emergency dress.
ReplyDeleteO how nice of you Vivienne. Thank you! When I scrolled down and saw those beautiful sunflowers I thought of my brother and my mother ...then read your kind words. Oh you touched my heart.
ReplyDeleteYour post was so great; the failed repeats were so fun to read, as I was feeling your frustration. What you wore looks so cute!
My mid-length flowing black shirt is my go to item.
Thank you, again. *)
oh my goodness! i can definitely relate. somehow my closet ended up on my floor this morning... whoops! your final attempt is a hit! i love the dress :)
ReplyDeleteI, personally, really like your emergency solution...especially with the sunny yellow cardigan to give it that pop of colour.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple, depending on the weather...we're coming up on cooler temps which means an oatmeal cowlnecked sweater tunic with brown leggings and cute ankle boots. What can I say, I like earth tones.
Everyday! I'm a hot mess hahaha but even when sometimes I think about the outfit on my mind and then when it come to live it doesn't work but its fun and you look amazing, love the color of the blazer!! btw, I now follow you on GFC, hope you can visit my blog and follow me back if you like, cheers..

We all have those mornings!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of dresses like that, no matter what the weather or occasion they are go to fall back options.
It's a cute dress, love the black & white print and it looks great with your yellow cardi.
Hey, those sunflowers match your outfit too!
ReplyDeleteI totally have days like that though. Now that I don't work in an office anymore, I have them less and less, but I think I do have an outfit format for emergency situation like this - usually a blouse or button-up with my favorite navy skirt and a pair of flats. Instantly cute and put-together.
great look!
ReplyDeleteSince I stay at home with my kids full-time, I tend to NOT dress up much - and I often end up with sticky finger prints, etc all over my clothes. My "emergency" section is clothes that I NEVER wear at home, so if it's time to go out I *know* I have something cute and CLEAN to throw on! Not exactly glamorous, but it works. :)
ReplyDeletefirstly, those sunflowers are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteand secondly, I think I don't have such emergency outfit. when I don't feel like dressing up, I just pick some random pieces and create something more or less decent :P
Maiken,
Maikeni blogi - part of me
it´s excellent style and new ideas every time.
ReplyDeleteI always pick out my outfit the night before work and if it's something new I'll try it on so there's no outfit emergencies :)

Super pretty flowers!
ReplyDeleteI have a few "go to" outfits that are pretty safe. Generally if I'm thinking of trying something a little more risky I try it out the night before to see if it'll work, but there have been mornings that I haven't done that and then end up in the same boat as you!
When I was working I could always wear our uniform if I was having a day like that! I mean, I'd get a lot of looks and people asking what I was so dressed up for, but it was easy. :) Now that I'm a SAHM, it's sundresses. I have no idea what it will be when it starts getting colder!
ReplyDeleteI've gone through that series more times than I can count. And I still don't have an emergency back up outfit! Even if I did, I doubt it would work for me. I think when the serial dressing happens, it's more about my state of mind than what's actually going on with the clothes. Eventually I get the message that it's time to lighten up, lady.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, listing it the way you did made it all sound rather comical. And your ER outfit looks great!
I've gone through the same series of steps, sometimes I even take longer! Its stupidly tough being a girl sometimes. I don't think I have a go to emergency outfit, if I can't figure it out then I'll wear workout shorts, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. I love the pop of color with the yellow cardigan. Thank you for the link for the necklace. Haha the term 'wrist rings' my boyfriend invented it one day...cause we were talking about why they are dubbed as 'arm candy', and he goes if you ask me they are more like rings for your wrist...wrist rings! I think its quite clever :)
ReplyDeletesometimes loving clothes & style really can be time consuming, & frustrating, ya know? i think the emergency outfit idea is a good one. pretty sunflower pics too. :)
ReplyDeletewow, I am so impressed! I think I am having a crush on you and I have to be your new follower :)
ReplyDeletei have those mornings all the time! it's nice to have a go-to fave, though! i'm not sure that i do...do sweats and t-shirts count?
ReplyDeleteAhh you poor thing - hope you weren't a total mess by the end of it. I can work myself up into a frenzy when my outfits aren't working, and things usually spiral downhill (and the bedroom is a mess with clothes everywhere). You look sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have an emergency stash to dash to in my closet...but in a pinch, I just throw on a good fitting pair of jeans, a basic t-shirt and throw on accessories (in any form...scarf, necklace, definitely some armswag...etc.).

Until I started thrifting, I had these epic fails all the time when dressing for work/school or anywhere in a bit of a hurry. Its much better now. I adore this outfit. The dress is so pretty. I think the idea of an 'emergency' dress section in the closet is very practical. I may do the same.
ReplyDeleteLovely! You made me laugh though- you sounded just like Bridget Jones! I don't have an emergency outfit I don't think, it's a good idea though- I do tend to get my clothes ready the night before though!
ReplyDeleteYes! I have a three dots wrap dress in black, also made in the usa. It's good for any occasion. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWell your emergency outfit looks great! That's a good idea to have a special "emergency" section in your closet, I might have to do that!
ReplyDeleteI feel like this all the time, glad I'm not the only one with morning dress emergencies!Putting the safe dresses together is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteoh yea, i always have my emergency outfit to go to
ReplyDeleteusually when i have this great outfit in my head and then i put it on and realize...what the heck was i thinking lol

My go-to tends to be any combo of black 'n' white, then add camel and gold accessories. As for your outfit, this dress is darling! I can imagine all the creative ways you'll remix it!!! ~Sarah
ReplyDeleteI have a few easy peasy "emergency dreses" as well. Gotta love em!
ReplyDeleteI don't have one but I need to have one......your morning just sounded like every day for me. I may need to go back to elementary school days and actually lay my outfit it every night. Not even kidding!
ReplyDeleteAawwwwh..so sweet...thank you. Sunflowers are a great friendship tie, now there you are, tied in my heart, too.
ReplyDeleteI try to make my whole wardrobe like that. I hate having items of clothing that I can only wear when the moon is correctly a lined with my rear end ;)
ReplyDeleteOK this is me everyday at 530 pm when i have to leave for work. Panic sets in and I have no idea what to wear. I know I have all day but I'm seriously preoccupied with stupid stuff like 5 pets, what to buy and make for dinner, walking dogs in woods, coming up with blog outfit. How do I have time to work? Cute post V. Funny. Dawn suitcase vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteThat same thing happens to me quite frequently I feel before work. I get frustrated in my not-a-morning-person state of mind and waste so much time that I settle on something I've either worn a million times or something I'm not comfortable in an hour through the day. A lot of times I try to just go for something really comfortable which for me is an oversized dress or shift dress with leggings and boots. I like your look though, it has no sign of your last idea of what you could wear when you are about to be late for work. =)
ReplyDeleteI've had these mornings 100x and leaning on a comfy, yet cute dress and cardigan is always a safe call. And if you look great in it (you do!), it is a win win!
