Hello Friends! Over the last few days, I've received some lovely emails from a few of you who have never commented, but visit my blog and, even better, actually read it! Thank you! But it got me wondering... how many more of you out there quietly read this thing without me knowing? Not that commenting is a requirement at all, and I know that my blogger settings aren't set to accept anonymous comments (it just seems too scary.) But if you know I exist, I want to know YOU exist! When I first started blogging a few months ago, I emailed a few of the ladies I regularly read just to say exactly that- "Hi, I read your blog and I want you to know I exist, too!" And it was SO nice when Jessica of What I Wore and Tania from the now discontinued What Would A Nerd Wear wrote back. Not that I'm saying you're going to feel awesome when I write you back... I'm just saying I'd like to know if you're out there. So, for the next 24 hours, I'm going to turn comment security off (but my ability to publish still on) so it'll be super easy if you want to leave a comment. Or you could just shoot me an email so I can say hi back...

Daily Details:
- weather: very warm
- shoes, thrifted, cost $10 divided by 7 uses = approximate current cost per wear (accpw) $1.43
- dress, vintage, thrifted by my sister and then gifted to me after only a little begging, and then recently altered (hem shortened by 10 inches), so $0 + $20 divided by 1 = accpw $20
- arm party (I'm so embarrassed I've been saying "arm candy" this whole time not realizing the official meaning is: A very attractive person who accompanies another to public gatherings but may not necessarily be romantically involved with that person. Trophy. Lesser used alternative: heroin... Anyway... watch, gift from student, old, very old gift, one of three in old set from Target before we broke up
- cognac patent bag, thrifted, accpw $5
- awesome new airplane necklace, gift from sweet mother-in-law!
Hello! I saw the title and went -- Aha! She's writing towards Me! :) I adore the dress on you, both in style and color. The necklace is just charming, too, and if it's not too copy-ish, I'm going to go google for a similar one now.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I don't comment is that I don't have gmail (I'm waiting for google to expose themselves for just how evil they claim not to be), a blog, use IM, etc ad nauseam. It was nicer writing you a personal email -- and hearing back in return! Yes, I did feel awesome, and it was pretty exciting. :)
Have a lovely evening....
That was nice of them to write you. I think there's a group of people (some may be bloggers) that just like to read blogs. I had a personal blog for about a year and came across 2 fashion blogs. I didn't know much about it, so I followed them for a couple of months just to LEARN how things were done. I have a cousin that is a fashion blogger and she just reads other people's blogs without commenting. She doesn't even expect comments on her blog. I think some just share the same interest that you do, or hobby, or they're trying to learn etc. I don't think everyone wants to comment or be known. It would be nice if they do, but it doesn't always happen.

It's me again...love coming here. That is very cute. I love the airplane necklace...a whimsical surprise. Love the green of your arm bangles with red of dress. A+ over all.
ReplyDeleteI love that about the blogging community - people can be so friendly :) Great outfit, I love wrap-style dresses!
ReplyDeleteLife etc
The dress is gorg and I love the necklace (my hubby's a pilot). Nice look.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I sometimes get comments and emails from people who say they've been faithful followers for years - it freaks me out, in a good way, that people read often and I don't know about them - such a compliment and then a real treat when I do hear from them! I do allow anonymous comments - after some years, some "anonymous" readers are now signing their names to their comments, like we're old friends! There is one (I think) anonymous person who comments only occasionally who always leaves semi-snarky comments. I have decided in future to not publish or to delete such comments. It's all about what you feel comfy with. :)
I love this outfit; it's perfect in every way, especially that gorgeous dress! Mary is right, your arm party really pops against the dress colour.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'm lurking over here......or is it over there? ---->*<----- Oh hi, you found me! =)
I always really, really appreciate emails as, like you, my blog doesn't accept anonymous comments. Perfect length on this dress and lovely draping detail on the neck and sleeves. I have a whole pile of dresses and skirts to shorten in order to give them a new lease of life.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm not a lurker but I had to say that I love your dress! Hahah I love "gifted with a little begging". :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks gorgeous on you - love the color!

I can totally understand why you don't allow anon. comments here in your blog.. I do the same thing, mainly because of all the spam. and how interesting would it be if we knew everyone who's reading our blogs. I mean, every name. so exciting!
ReplyDeleteMaiken,

First of all, that dress is darling on you! I love the airplane necklace too, SO cute!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about the lurkers before but now you've got me thinking about it!

I'm not one of those quite ones...hehehe. I love your dress. It's so very feminine and the color is quite beautiful. Great outfit Vivienne!
ReplyDeleteI totally did that too when I started blogging and I did write Jessica too and was so psyched when she wrote me back! I've had this happen to me too and it is such a great feeling. I think that someone taking the time to email me is even more special than a comment because it takes that extra time for sure.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty dress today Vivienne!
This color is gorgeous on you and the ruffles are so adorable! I want this dress it's perfect for so many occasions. So cute!
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Sara
we read it every day (both of us)...and we try to comment most days! you look lovely, this color and the wrap style look great on you!
ReplyDeletehahaha i wish i knew all the randoms that read my blog too!
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks gorgeous on you! A lot of times when I comment, I do it because I want to let the blogger know I'm reading his/her posts. But, I don't always comment on each post...just depends on the day/mood/post. =)

I kind of wish comments were mandatory - I'm so curious to know everyone who reads my blog and what they think of it! Getting emails from people about the blog is, for me, the most rewarding part about all of this. Knowing that someone genuinely enjoys what you're putting out there... enough to reach out and say hello... that's huge. That's awesome that you got some sweet emails. You deserve it :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day!
You are one of my regular daily reads and someone that I have come to consider a friend, so I'm not de-lurking at all, but still wanted to comment to say hello and - I love that dress! :)
ReplyDeletetarget, before we broke up. ;) arm candy means can mean trophy or black tar?
ReplyDeletelove that dress! and the color looks great!

That's a gorgeous dress. I read your blog daily but rarely comment. I don't always have something witty to say!
ReplyDeleteLovely dress, and a perfect color for fall coming!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a gorgeous dress!
ReplyDeleteI would be fascinating to know how many people actually read one's blog...
I've been reading your blog daily for ~1 month (via Google Reader). I really enjoy your colourful outfits and think you have a gorgeous smile!
ReplyDeleteDee
Dee, you are so sweet! Thanks for reading!
DeleteI like that this dress is conservative and fun at the same time. The color seems perfect for the upcoming fall season! And I wouldn't be too scared of Anonymous comments if I were you, I've always had them turned on (so my non-blogger friends could comment) and in the past year I have only gotten two negative comments (and they were both completely uncalled for so I question their intelligence and therefore didn't read much into them...). Honestly, it's fun to get a comment from someone who isn't on Blogger. It's a reminder that there are more people out there :)

I am one of your dutiful daily lurkers. My favorite blogs are the inspiration posts, of style imitating art, life, actors, food, or anything. You are inspiring that the next time I get out of town to go to a thift shop and shop for color, inspiration, natural fabrics, and personal style. You have made me think of my footprint, and my local makes my natural imprint horrendously impractical, but just perhaps I begin with an ethical ensemble imprint. Robin G.
ReplyDeleteRobin G- Thank you! Maybe we can go thrift shopping together if you're ever in Seattle!? Depending on your location, it can be extremely difficult to go green- rural Alaska leaps to mind as an example... thanks for reading and writing me today! :)

A follow-up thought to my reply.... I'm pretty sure I want to my thrift shop experience to be inspired by a bowl of Gazpacho soup. Natural fresh ingredients, fresh bright colors and flavors blended harmoniously. Solid foundation/shoes/bag of gorgeous slices of pale golden bread. Oh, and can’t forget the arm candy of a drizzle of olive green oil and fresh cracked pepper.
DeleteOh wow, that was seriously like poetry to me! I was just thinking two days ago that all I really wanted to eat was gazpacho... you and I must be sharing a brain cell!
Delete(LOL) You know I always comment. In fact, I'm sure you are sick of me already. I use Feedjit just to check out the lurkers - quite a few of them on the internet. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress. It's so ladylike.

that is really nice - i love looking at google analytics - i know a lot of friends who read my blog and talk to me about it, but i know they don't comment or follow via GFC - sometimes they use facebook. i'm surprised at how much facebook matters sometimes.
ReplyDeleteanyhow - i LOVE that necklace. and green and brown. loving it

This is a very interesting point! I'd love to know who reads my blog without me knowing it. A few old colleagues who found my blog by googling me apparently (!!!!) said to me that they still read it occasionally and I thought- ooooooooooh, who reads me!?!?!!? There are some people who follow me who have NEVER commented and I wondered why- I always aim to comment to say hi occasionally if I read someone (and to let them know I've read it!) because feedback is great.
ReplyDeleteWow...that dress is just gorgeous in every way.
ReplyDeleteSuddenly I can comment!!! The "Name/url" option is good for those of us who are just .coms! I have often wondered about the lurkers. I "style-stalked" several bloggers before I realized that I didn't have to BE a blogger in order to comment. Now that I am a blogger, I realize the value of those comments and the amazing relationships that can be formed. I adore your style and your conscientious effort you make to ensure our world is a better place thru fashion. Hugs!!! ~Sarah
ReplyDeletegirl, this dress is a stunner. it's meant for you!
