Sell Your Sole

I have a new best friend! I mean, I got a new bag!  I love it!  I think it's chic, cheeky, and earthy.  Just like me!  Ha!  It's also as close as I care to get to a Birkin bag.  I got it from  Sell Your Sole consignment shop yesterday while running an errand.  I saw their sandwich board and followed the signs because I'd read about it recently and I now feel about consignment stores the way I used to feel about candy stores.  Ok, fine, I still love candy stores.  Anyway... the owner and associate were very nice, very approachable, and seemed like the kind of people you want to be friends with.  The shop is full of goodies including gorgeous shoes, unique jewelry, and pretty clothes, of course.  I told them about this blog and Natalia (I think that's the owner's name) asked me how I felt about  my clothes since I made the decision to shop second hand/ ethical almost a year ago. What a great question!!  How DO I feel about my decision?

- GREAT!
- I just love it when I get compliments on my thrift store goodies.
- I love the items I've gotten from small boutiques and consignment shops because I like knowing that my purchases benefit the smart, like-minded merchants in my community.
- I am especially loving the permission I've given myself to alter my clothes.  I'm working on a dress tonight that I've never worn and I'm so excited to be able to get use out of it!
- Since I've been paying more attention to fabrics, I'm really appreciating the qualities of cotton, wool, silk, and cashmere.
- I've really been feeling good about the new clothes I've picked up recently that were made in the USA!

Anyway, this outfit is experimental.  I'm not really into the shoulder cutout trend, but I bought this top from the South Lake Union Goodwill two weeks ago because it had a high-low hem, it's floaty, and it's floral.  I thought it was worth $2.50.  My report?  Well, I'm glad I took a little sartorial risk, but when the tempereatures cooled in the evening, my shoulders got goose bumps! The cutout also perfectly frames a scar I have on my arm, but I'm so over trying to hide my many scars and spots.

Are there any scars or spots you try to hide?

Daily Details:

  1. I think it's so great what you decided! I'd really love to shop more in thrift stores, but well, there really aren't so many in Munich... at least I haven't found one.. But - when I was in London - I saw in Oxford street that is one of the biggest shopping streets I've ever seen with all from Primark to zara and forever21 a little salvation army shop. But we didn't have time to go in... Such a pity, I've even dreamed of this shop and some gorgeous finds ;-)
I haven't tried such cut-out-shoulders yet, I'm really not sure about it for me... I think the top looks lovely, trimmed with this little belt but however, I can imagine that your shoulders were freezing a bit in the evening ;-) and no, I'm over hiding scarfs and things like that - who cares, nobody is perfect ;-)

  2. If I tried to cover all my scars, I'd walk around in mummy attire (not hot). At some point, you just have to own them. Like a little scrapbook of unsafe work practices, drunk nights and horrible balance. That's what my scars say about me. I'm an unsafe drunk with balance issues. I'll start covering them tomorrow.

  4. to be honest I don't feel bad about my scars (my legs have quite many of those because I experience strange times when all kind of accidents happen to me). I kind of rather like scars, haha.
anyway, I wanted to say how lovely your outfit is! everything about it is just gorgeous. and how awesome is the bag!

I'm too busy trying to hide the extra 15 pounds I need to get rid of to worry about things like scars. :)

  8. Hello new bag! You are super cute! Glad you found a fun new consignment shop.

Oh yeah, I've got scars and spots and at sadly at 30, still have acne on my shoulders and what not but I just don't let it stop me. I used to try to hide it and then I realized, I'm missing out on wearing fun shirts, so I just gave in!

  17. I checked out the web site for that consignment shop. I can't wait to get back from vacation and go check it out! You scored with that purse. I hope I get lucky there too.

By the way, I do love this feminine top on you. I don't think the cut outs look trendy even though it's sort of a new concept. And if your feet were two sizes bigger I'd have to sneak those shoes away from you. ;)

  19. This top is so pretty! And I don't really try to hide my scars. I feel like there isn't that much you can do about them, so I figure you might as well embrace them.
