My day started with kayaking on Lake Union with my brother.
We rented two singles (way funner than a tandem.)
Here he is near some houseboats and duckies.

Then I ate a huge lunch, took a tiny nap, and had a quick shower before getting ready for my cello lesson. Two outfits in one day!
But what I really want to talk about is bags...
But what I really want to talk about is bags...
A few months ago, in a thrift store, I spotted a little purse with the unmistakable LV logo all over it. It looked totally new, had pretty tags with numbers on it, was lined in leather, felt nice, and came in a little protective bag. In the heat of the moment, I bought it. Then I came home and read articles on the internet about how you could tell a fake from the real deal for about an hour until I was sure it was a fake. And it sat there, unused and unloved for months until I decided to sell it at my favorite consignment store. The owner knew immediately it was fake, but thought it would sell anyway. The next day, the owner called me to tell me she had to give me back my bag because the leather part that attached the bag to the strap was coming off! Keep in mind, this is a totally new bag! Ack! Dang piece of trash! So I picked it up, cut off the offending piece with scissors, and am punishing myself for my stupidity by carrying it in my purse as a clutch to hold my non-basics until I feel my shopping sins have been reprieved. Ugh. And the moral of the story is: Don't get excited about fancy things you don't even really like. And don't buy knock-offs. Besides being terrible quality, they are very likely made in places you don't want to be associated with. Right?
So, in an effort to turn a Louis Vuitton lemon into blog lemonade, here's a post about what's usually in my bag!
Essentials:
- wallet
- phone
- grocery bag, now that bags at the grocery store cost a nickel a piece
- punishment clutch of non-essentials
Non-essentials but make me feel safe and prepared for the world:
- notebook
- lip gloss
- lip gloss
- pencil, pen, sharpie
- bag hook
- mirror
- comb
- lotion
- band aids
- two different tea bags in case I'm ever in some kind of tea emergency?
- not pictured: hand sanitizer, tissues, gum
Have you ever regretted a buying a knock-off?
Do you carry anything unique in your bag?
Do you carry anything unique in your bag?
Daily Details:
- weather: very warm and sunny
- location: Northwest Outdoor Center on Lake Union and community garden
- AM Outfit: t-shirt gifted, shorts accpw $7, beach shoes accpw $3, bag accpw $5, life jacket rented

Both outfits are great and what a busy, fun day! (Funner should totally be in the dictionary btw!) I love how attached you are to your green bracelet; it's indicative of how much your students mean to you. =)

what an interesting post! I have bought some (a "LV" bag, a "Chanel" scarf, "Versace" sunnies..) knock-offs from Crete island but I don't actually regret because all those things have great quality and have luckily lasted for many long years. though I still really appreciate the real things!

Oh no! Bummer about the bag... I probably would have bought it too in the moment. That's so funny that she called you to tell you it was falling apart, it must have been embarrassing going back in to get it :D I think it works well in your purse to carry your essentials! Don't feel bad about it, it didn't break the bank and it was an honest mistake :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
Oh this post made me smile. You are too funny about carrying that LV as a punishment! I don't believe I've ever bought a knock off before. I have bought "designer inspired" items but not a straight off knock off. I think. LOL. I loved the look inside your bag though! I think the only unique thing in my bag is my "I'm a germaphobe" hook that I take with to hang my bag on the edge of a table at a restaurant so I don't have to put it on the floor!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people don't realize that they've bought a knockoff since they are getting so good at making the fake ones look real. I love seeing what's inside peoples' bags...thanks for sharing the contents with us. Have a great weekend!

What a fun day!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your bag but I totally understand your message. I've personally bought items that I knew were "designer inspired" because I liked the style but would never be able to throw down the cash for $300 sunglasses (especially when I break or lose half of them, sad face.) but a knock off that is covered in labels is a completely different ballpark to me. :-/
Though I've never really understood why something that said "coach" all over it or what have you appealed to people anyway...
LOve This Dear! i enjoyed seeing it, Thanks For Posting ! ♥
ReplyDeleteMwaks!

Your ideas inspire others because you do things with passion, keep on!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what's in people's bags. I'm always leery of "designer" stuff I find that I can't verify the authenticity of, unless it's really cheap and I can't pass it up. But good idea, using it in your bag, at least it gets some use!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! Obviously I love your cute polka dot skirt. I'm sorry to hear about your bag, boo!

ReplyDeleteKayaking is such awesome exercise and fun! Looks like you had a great time! Love your polka dot skirt. Ohhh nooo about the LV!!! There are so many fakes when it comes to that. I have a real set, but I'm selling it. I just sold the cosmetic pouch. I'm not into monogram bags anymore. Hope you have a delightful weekend Vivienne!

I capsized once in a kayak...Mini heart attack.
ReplyDeleteI have purchased shoes inspired by higher end designers but never a knock-off. My simple rule -- if the deal is too good to be true it usually is.
I'm loving the polka dot skirt. Happy weekend.

looks like you had a fun day with your bro. i've never intentionally bought a knock off, unlike a friend of mine who knowingly bought 2 in nyc. i don't really care about brand names though. v, what's a bag hook? have you ever wondered why no one shows feminine hygiene products, medicine/drugs, cigarettes, or condoms in their what's in my bag posts?

oh wow! this looks like soooo much fun. i've only been kayaking once and i dont really remember it - and i love that you had arm candy while kayaking. keepin' it stylish no matter what! and on knock offs - i found that it is really hard to find a non-knockoff purse in thrift shops if it is prada, chanel, LV, coach, or kate spade. plus, that is the sucky thing - they aren't made well :( but then again, you get something cute that is at least useful for it. oh, and this polka dot skirt is one of my favorites of yours - it's so cute!
